TAMPA, FL — The International Packaged Ice Association (IPIA) has issued a statement in response to the November 27, 2022 boil water notice in Houston, TX warning the public about the dangers of consuming ice that has been contaminated by unsafe water.
The oldest continuously run family-owned packaged ice company in North America is celebrating their 150th anniversary this year. The York Ice Company, Inc., DBA Good Time Ice, is well-known across Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland for its high-quality packaged ice. The company traces its founding back to 1872, when H.L. Neuman began his ice cream and ice business. While the ice cream business was sold to Borden's Dairy in 1930, the ice business continued through many challenges. BBC News released a scathing report today on the quality of ice from three of the United Kingdom’s biggest coffee chains. The BBC News report found that ice from the chains found considerable fecal contamination – in fact 13 of the 30 samples (43%) found the contamination in the ice.
